Signs Your Wheels Are Out of Alignment and Need Servicing

It’s easy to knock your wheels out of alignment; we have all done it at one point or another during our driving lives. The good news is that Dave’s Auto Repair can realign your wheels when they need it. Wheel alignment is important in that it helps you control your automobile and reduces premature tire tread wear. Aligned wheels meet with the ground squarely so you have optimal control of your automobile. Here are signs that your wheels are not aligned and need to be serviced as soon as possible.

Pulling to a Side

One of the most common signs that your automobile’s wheels are out of alignment is that it pulls to the right or left side even though you are steering straight. Your wheels are aligned so that they go straight unless you turn your steering wheel to point them in a different direction. If your car is veering to one side or the other even though you want it to head straight, the wheels are not aligned properly.

Crooked Steering Wheel

Another common sign that your wheels are not aligned properly is your steering wheel itself. With the wheels pointing perfectly straight, sit in the driver seat and look at your car manufacturer’s logo that is located in the center of the steering wheel. Is it straight or is it crooked? If it is crooked, your steering wheel is off-center, which means that your wheels need to be realigned.

Squealing Tires Around Corners

You may also notice that your tires have started to squeal when you turn around corners. This, too, is a sign that your wheels are not aligned the way that they need to be. The reason that your tires are squealing when you turn corners is that they are losing their grip on the road and, as such, they make squeaking or squealing sounds. It’s important to have your tires and wheels checked if they make noise.

It’s Been Two Years or More

Finally, the maximum duration you should wait between wheel alignments is two years. If it has been two years or more since you had your wheels last aligned, they are overdue for this service and are likely out of alignment. You should also have your wheels aligned every time you get a new set of tires. Make sure to have the wheels balanced at that time, as well.
